Michael Joseph Beale, affectionately known as "Beale" and "DOG" to all who knew him, passed away on April 10th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and boundless positivity. He was 53 years old.
Survived by his son Clayton, daughter Claire, wife Kenny, and Kenny's children, Rey and Arantza, Beale leaves behind family who cherished him deeply. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Robert), sisters Barbara and Katie, and numerous friends and colleagues who were touched by his presence. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Janet (2012) and father, Michael (2024), both of whom were significant influences in his life.
Mike never met an enemy. He possessed a remarkable ability to adapt to any situation and befriend any type of person from any background, earning him the admiration and respect of all who crossed his path. His infectious laughter and zest for life were constants, bringing joy to those around him every single day.
An avid surfer, Mike found solace and exhilaration on the waves of Southern California's coastline. His passion for surfing was matched only by his dedication to his work. As a key member of the instructional and testing team at Orange Coast College, Michael shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with a vast number of students, leaving an indelible mark on the academic community he served. Mike and Kenny developed a passion for travel and loved to visit Kenny's family in Mexico. They took up pickleball later in life and would regularly play in casual matches as well as tournaments. Mike also developed a special love of golf that he shared with two of the most precious young people in his life: his kids, Clay and Claire.
Mike's intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. He relished his Theta Delta Chi fraternity years at Arizona State, held multiple graduate degrees (UNLV & Cal State Fullerton) yet possessed a rare gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. His ability to relate to others, coupled with his sharp wit and humor, endeared him to everyone he encountered. Mike was an avid reader and writer. He enjoyed watching reruns of popular comedy films. To diffuse situations, he would often greet his friends using characters’ names, using nicknames such as "Munson," "Drebin," and "Nordberg."
One of Beale's recent projects was his role as the creator and star of the popular "Beachin' with Beale Southern California Surf Report" on nationally syndicated Varsity Sports Radio Show. For three years, his funny and improvisational delivery captivated audiences, helping popularize the segment and cementing his status as a beloved, comedic figure on sports radio.
Above all, Mike was a beloved husband, father, son, nephew, and friend. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of those he touched.
