Leroy Monteilh, 84, returned to his heavenly home on April 8, 2016 . His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Leroy was born to the late Joe and Ethel Monteilh, in Okmulgee, OK on September 9, 1931. As a child Leroy’s dad taught him the meaning of hard work and it was a trait that he would keep throughout his life. His mother was instrumental in making sure Leroy understood that family is a blessing and should be cherished always. The oldest of 14 children, Leroy lead by example and strived to be a good role model for his brothers and sisters. Leroy’s memory was long and he often relayed the humorous stories of the exploits of growing up in such a large family as only a big brother could.
Leroy married his soulmate Janie Ella Behn on January 29, 1960 in Phoenix, AZ after a whirlwind 3 month courtship. They would enjoy marital bliss for 49 years until God called her home in 2008. To this union they brought forth Leroy James, John Eli, Wanda Lorraine and Janie Elizabeth. Their love, dedication, and commitment to each other was the legacy they left their children.
In work and in play Leroy was a man who loved to be outdoors. Leroy worked in the construction industry for more than 42 years and would proudly point out the many buildings across the Phoenix area that he had a hand in creating. In his downtime you could often find him and Janie fishing and camping . His prized catch is mounted on his wall just in case you doubt his story about catching the “Big One”.
Leroy is survived by his children Leroy James Monteilh, Jr, Wanda Lorraine Monteilh and Janie Elizabeth Brooks, siblings: Charles, Gene, Richard (Michelle), Louis, Paul (Judy), Larry, Ray (Greta) Shirley (John), Evangeline (DeKovan), and Diane (Brent) grandchildren: Autumn, Tiano, Reyjean, Winter, Joseph, John Jr, Ashley, Steven, Leroy III , DeCarlos, Dason and Jayden, great grandchildren: Orianna, Josiah, Jackson, Tina, Regean, Nixion, Tina, Noah, Lily and Lincoln, a host of nieces and nephews and his loyal pet Magic.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and Edward John, sister Betty, wife Janie and son John.
The true measure of a man is proven by the legacy he leaves behind seen clearly in the faces of those who appreciate who he is and all that he chose not to be.
