Margaret Catherine Mueller, 99, passed away peacefully with family members at her side on June 23, 2023. Margaret was born in Butte Montana on May 24, 1924 to John and Frances Buckley. The family moved first to Miami AZ then later to Phoenix where Margaret graduated from St Mary’s High School.
Margaret married Carl Mueller and they settled in Phoenix to raise their family. When her youngest was in high school, Margaret went to work for the newly established Catholic Diocese of Phoenix as administrative assistant for Bishop Edward McCarthy. After leaving the Diocese, Margaret began a 25 year career at the State of Arizona. She worked as an administrative assistant at the State Legislature and for the Director of the Government Information Technology Agency. Margaret retired at age 85.
Margaret had many lifelong friends she met in school or soon after. She was an avid card player, usually having 1 or 2 Bridge games scheduled each week well into her 90’s.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband Carl and eldest son Donald, sisters Lorraine (Barnett) and Helen (Markham), and brother Jack Buckley. She is survived by daughters Marilyn (Macey) and Barbara (Bill Hammontree) and son John. Margaret had 16 grandchildren: Connie (Lucas), Melissa (Curtis), Steve, Tony, Stacey (Rutherford), Michelle, Brittney (Fitts), Holly (Johnson), Brian Scofield, Adam Scofield, Bill Hammontree, Kyle Hammontree, Rebecca (Surina), Gillian (Goddard), Matt and Stephanie. She had 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, from 5 – 7 P.M., on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, 4715 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, at 12:30 P.M., on Friday, June 30, 2023, with interment to follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
