Anna Maie Murphy, passed away July 4th at the age of 88. She was a lifelong learner and teacher that impacted so many in Arizona.
Born in Phoenix to Frank G. and Eula P. Murphy, Anna Maie graduated from St. Mary’s High School and went on to get her teaching degree at the University of Arizona . She spent three years in Europe teaching American children of military personnel. She returned to Phoenix to teach in the Osborn Elementary District, later becoming principal of Encanto Elementary School. She influenced many lives and shared her love of teaching and learning with friends and associates. She volunteered for many years at the Heard Museum and more recently at André House. She shared the gift of her laughter anyone in her presence. At Anna Maie’s request, contributions can be made to her beloved charity, André House, PO Box

She is survived by her two brothers Joe and Pat Murphy, sister-in laws, Sherry Murphy, Joyce Murphy and Janine Evans.
In her own words, “In 88 years, nobody had as much fun as I did. I had good fortune to be born to Frank and Eula Murphy, who were ideal parents for me. I had 3 wonderful brothers, Joe, Bill, Patrick and a nephew that managed my affairs. I am grateful to St. Mary’s Elementary and High School and St. Mary’s Catholic Church that supported me on the way to maturity. I am grateful to my cherished friends. I am especially grateful for the discovery of the work of the Andre House. I have had a blast. Follow your heart and you will discover something wonderful.” Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 3432 N. 18th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. Graveside Service will be at 9:00 AM, Monday, July 20, 2015 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Phoenix.
