Peggie L. Folz

April 17, 1937 — April 2, 2024

Phoenix

Peggie Evans was born at the 'old' St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix in 1937; she was separated from her parents at an early age and was cared for by her mother's side of the family in Phoenix until she married.  Her mother: Georgie Payne, did recover from TB and lived a long full life and they visited often and loved each other deeply.  Attending many Phoenix area grade schools, she set her heart on going to Phoenix Union High School, graduating from there in 1955.  During her senior year she went on a blind date with Mickey Folz from St. Mary's H.S. and married him on Dec. 28, 1955.  They were married for 64 years until Mickey passed in 2019. Her early marriage years were a struggle due to medical complications with their son: Brian.  They persevered through these times with hard work and the support of family, the church, and friends.  Born and wed in the Catholic Church, she attended many parishes but always called St. Francis Xavier her home parish.

She was a homemaker until her children were of age.  Her husband started teaching in the Catholic grade school system in 1971 and her support was immeasurable.  She entered the work force mainly in the secretarial, accounting, real estate, and sales fields.  Some of her employers were: Exxon, America West Airlines, and Kelly Girl services.  Later she founded and ran a specialty advertising business: Stylish Ads, where she could use her artistic and people skills - an independent  saleswoman was born.  A true and defining trait was her way of acquiring and keeping friends.  Through her involvement with civic, church, and charitable organizations, her and husband's friends to include the 1955 Phoenix Union reunion group and historical society, neighbors, and workmates she made lifelong endearing friendships.  She made new friends but kept the old; always saying: one is silver and the other gold.  One year, on a whim, we counted all the events, parties, and ceremonies she attended, the total was over 250.  Her husband and her were a very popular pair.  In retirement she traveled on many cruises and kept a cabin in Pinewood, of course making friends all along the way.  She was a humble, gracious, caring, and engaging person.  Her last years were spent at an assisted living facility: The Terraces of Phoenix and she felt comfortable there.

Peggie is survived by her son: Cory; daughter: Judy (John) Holbeck; grandchildren: Casey Mahoney, Ellee Forsythe, and Brenton Holbeck.  She is preceded in death by her husband: Mickey, daughter: Lesa Mahoney/Forsythe, and son: Brian.
