Mona Cordner Pfordte, moved from the arms of her loving husband into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. She was born to Per and Matilda Hetland of Climax, Minnesota on Valentine’s Day, 1922. As a nurse Mona earned the rank of Captain in the US Air Force after leaving the US Army as a Lieutenant. She served her country during and after WWII in the Philippines, Panama, Japan, and elsewhere.
After serving her country she worked as an Occupational Health Nurse at Motorola in Phoenix, AZ. She retired after 23 years as a Nursing Supervisor and began to use her talents as a volunteer. She spent four months as a mission nurse in Ethiopia with Food for the Hungry. Her dedication to serving others continued as the parish nurse at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, founding manager of the church food closet, and as a Literacy Volunteer. In 1992, she met and in 1997 married her best friend, Alfred Pfordte. They were married for 17 years and traveled the world together. He held her as she took her last breath.
Mona is survived by her husband Al Pfordte; her son, Chuck (Marianne) Cordner; her daughter Beth (Ken) Collier, and grandsons Aaron and Jesse Collier.
Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 AM, Friday, April 10, 2015 at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 3546 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix. Interment will be at 9:00 AM, Monday, April 13, 2015 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
