It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ramon Alfonso Pimentel age 93 on Monday, November 15, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. He passed peacefully at home with family by his side. He was born on December 1927 to Alfonso and Olivia Pimentel. As a young man he enjoyed riding his pony Barney and going hunting with his grandfather. Ramon enlisted in the Air Force in 1948. His basic training was at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and later received advanced training at Chanute AFB in Illinois. He received the Good Conduct Medal and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning to Phoenix, he enrolled at Arizona State College in 1952 and graduated in 1957, while simultaneously working in construction. During that time, he married Benedicta Marquez at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Phoenix in 1953. Ramon and Benedicta recently celebrated 68 years of marriage this past September. Ramon began his teaching career with Roosevelt School District #66 and later moved to Phoenix Elementary District #1 from which he retired. Ramon’s career spanned over 30 years, and he enjoyed teaching and mentoring students, some of whom became life-long friends. He taught multiple subjects, including math and industrial arts. Ramon had many hobbies and interests: artisan blacksmithing, woodworking, boxing, hunting, horses and horseshoeing, saddle making, reading, cooking outdoors and baking, smoking an occasional cigar and pipe, recalling fond memories of hunting trips with his grandfather, brothers and friends, and telling jokes. Most importantly, Ramon enjoyed taking care of his family and was always available to lend a helping hand.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Richard, Pearl, and Marshall. Ramon is survived by his beloved wife Benedicta, daughter Anna, son Robert (Sheila), and son Alfred. Also, he also leaves behind his grandchildren Matthew (Tatum), Megan (John), Aaron, Marcus, and one great-grandson Peter. He also leaves his brothers Arthur, Robert, Joseph, and sister Ruby.
