Mary Martha Prince, 73, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away March 30

, 2015. She was born on January 28
th
, 1942 to John F. Prince, Ph.D, and Margaret Ovens Prince. Mary Martha attended St. Gregory’s Elementary School and Xavier College Preparatory. She was a graduate of Phoenix College where she was a member of Kappa Delta Nu Sorority and Honor Board. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1969 Mary Martha received her Master of Arts Degree in Library Science from the University of Denver.
Mary Martha’s professional career included stints teaching Secondary English in Claremont, California, Maryvale, Arizona and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon completion of her M.A. degree she was hired at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs where she served as Librarian, eventually being named Library Director at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs. She also served as Librarian at Arizona State University West, the Fountain Hills Branch of the Maricopa County Library System, Thunderbird School of Global Management and Gateway Community College.
Mary Martha was the Co-Founder of Arizona Outdoors Woman, AZOW. She also served on the Dougherty Foundation Board for 26 years serving as President numerous times during her tenure. Her volunteer work included being a Guide at the Desert Botanical Gardens and a Tutor at Florence Crittenton of Arizona.
She is survived by her sister, Terry Prince Sims, and her husband William J. Sims III, her brother, Michael Robert Prince as well as by her nephews and nieces, Matthew Prince, his wife Tiffany, Brittany Prince, Hawley Prince, Jonathan Sims, Christopher Sims, Jacqueline Sims and her husband Tyler, her grand-nieces and nephews, Brynn, Kylee, Nolan, Savannah and Beau. She is preceded in death by her parents Dr. John F. Prince, Margaret Ovens Prince and by her brother, Captain John Frederick Prince Jr.
Donations may be made in her honor to St. Vincent de Paul, Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 13

, 2015 at 10:00am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4715 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 North 48

Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
