Raymond Chavez

Raymond “Monie” Chavez was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He left his earthly body on Wednesday July 3, 2024 at home in the presence of his family. His battle with cancer in recent years showed his courage and fierce fight while facing life’s challenges. Despite the pain, Monie came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

He was born on November 11, 1938 to Thomas and Pola Chavez. After graduating from high school, Monie joined the National Guard where he served for several years before working for the City of Phoenix for 35+ years. As a lifelong mechanic, he later delivered parts for Napa Auto Parts for 12+ years followed by 4 years at O’Reilly Auto Parts.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Chavez who he missed dearly.

He is survived by their five children; Mary Helen (Robert), Diana (Danny), Reymundo, Roberta (George), and Rita (Lupe). Fifteen grandchildren; Jessica (Nacho), Mia, Melissa R., Daniel (Krystal), Melissa M. (Anthony), Brittany (Charles), Breanna (Fernando), Brooklyn, Sabrina, Jessie (Ariana), Georgie, Nico, Gabriel, Cristian (Kristella), and Anissa. Thirteen great grandchildren; Yzeah, Dominik, Syras, Evalyn, Daniel, Donovan, Damon, Baby Ramirez, Anthony, Iean, Mykah, Alayna, and Baby Wakamatzu.

Monie was a skilled hunter and enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons. He loved camping with family, especially for his annual Chavez family reunion up north. He visited Disneyland annually with family and bestowed a love for Disney in all of his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of Monie’s life and legacy will take place after the services at the American Legion Post #41, 715 S. 2nd Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85003.

Funeral services will be held in his honor on Thursday, July 11, 2024, with Visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Rosary at 9:30 a.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. At 11:00 a.m. a Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Parish, 909 S. 1st Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003. Interment will immediately follow mass at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008.
