Robert “Bob” David Hurt, DDS, 86, died on Saturday, October 14, 2023 in Phoenix. He was born February 23, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Russell and Mabel (Brasche) Hurt. After attending Redwood City HS, CA, and the University of Washington, Bob graduated from Seton Hall School of Dentistry, NJ, at the top of his class. While serving his country in the Air Force, he met his future wife Linda Gayle (Taff) Hurt while stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC. They moved to Phoenix in 1963 and raised their four children together.
Bob practiced 50 plus years of dentistry with utmost skill and the philosophy to treat every patient as if he or she was a family member. Bob also felt civic responsibilities keenly and ran for mayor of Phoenix in the late 1970’s. He was a man of great faith and attended Mass nearly every day. He engaged in many charitable endeavors and leaves a tremendous legacy of touching the lives of many via his philanthropic gestures, on both personal and professional levels.
Bob is survived by Gayle; his three daughters: Catherine, Jennifer, and Heather; three sons in law Richard, Thomas, and Paul; two sisters: Michael and Susan; 18 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Hillary, and son Christopher.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 2nd from 5-7 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., 85018 in Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 3rd at 10 AM at Mater Misericordiae Catholic Church, 1537 W. Monroe St., Phoenix, AZ 85007 with burial to follow at St. Francis Cemetery 2033 N. 48th St. 85008 in Phoenix.
