Ronald Wayne Sanders, 88 of Phoenix, peacefully passed at home in hospice care, to join his wife Barbara Jean Doherty-Sanders and two sons, Richard Warren and Robert William, in heaven on a beautiful, sunny morning with his oldest son Randy and granddaughter, Melissa, by his side on November 11, 2022.
”Wayne” was born on July 10, 1934 to parents Rolla Warren Sanders and Ruth Barber-Sanders in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Reavis High School in SW Chicago where he was a varsity football star and played against crosstown rivals Oaklawn High School where Barbara was a cheerleader. They married on July 13, 1957.
His gregarious personality, kindness and infectious laugh often described Wayne. Those who were familiar with him knew that he and his wife Barbara had a powerful love for rescuing and raising dogs. After retirement from his profession as a mechanical engineer, Wayne enjoyed his time working in his one-man handyman business, taking his boat on the local lakes, or puttering around at his home workshop and yard. He was always quick with a joke, and he enjoyed chatting with his neighbors and others who described him as the nicest guy they knew.
Wayne is survived by his oldest son Randy and his daughter-in-law Marci, granddaughter Melissa and husband Mark Jr., great grandchildren Dustin and Caden, Mark Jr., Jeremy, Selena, nephews Rodney Sanders and Rolla “Wayde” Sanders.
Wayne’s wishes did not include a memorial service.
