Rupert Vizzera Ruiz, 94, of Tempe, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Rupert was born on November 18, in Tempe to Jose Francisco and Sophia (Vizzera) Ruiz. He got his GED and attended Mesa Community College. Rupert was a dedicated public servant, working for the City of Tempe for more than 34 years. He was extraordinarily proud to serve his community well.
Rupert married the love of his life, Antonia (Rodriquez), on July 30, 1952. They shared nearly 72 wonderful years together, all marked by mutual respect, unwavering support, and a deep love for their family. Rupert and Antonia were blessed with three children, Rupert (Elizabeth) Ruiz; Toni Harlow; and Priscilla (Keith) Miller. Rupert is survived by his wife and children.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Lisa Ruiz-Lee (Ken Lee); Mathew (Candace) Ruiz; Timothy (Shannon) Ruiz; Ray (Heidi) Harlow; Michael Harlow; Michele (John) Aguero; Shannon (Sean) Mayfield; and Jason (Rosario) Miller. He also leaves behind 29 great grandchildren, and 8 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Brandon Ruiz; William Harlow; and Christina Lopez.
A celebration of Rupert’s life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Mount Carmel located at
2121 South Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ, 85282. Following Mass, a graveside service will be held at Tempe Double Butte cemetery around 11:30 AM. The cemetery is located at 2505 W. Broadway Rd., Tempe AZ, 85282.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home located at 4800 Indian School Rd., Phoenix AZ, 85018. Visitation will be held in the chapel there from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.
Rupert will be remembered for his sense of humor, wit, kindness, and compassion. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will continue to inspire and uplift his family.
