Frances Apodaca (Fernandez) Salcido

Frances Apodaca (Fernandez) Salcido, 84, passed away on August 17, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born on October 13, 1938, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School, class of 1958. She was married to her beloved husband, Fermin Salcido, for almost 60 years. Frances retired from sales in retail from both, Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fermin; son, Fermin Jr; grandsons, Eric and Nathan Gonzales; mother, Tomasa Apodaca-Fernandez; father, Wulfrano Fernandez; sister, Belia; brother, Wulfrano Jr; her aunts who raised her, Maria Jesus Fernandez and Maclovia Fernandez. She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Evelyn & Oscar Valenzuela; Lisa & Richard Gonzales; grandchildren, Fermin Salas, Bri & Nick Niro, Jacob Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Blake, Xander and Reese Edwards, Jude Niro; sister, Alice Fernandez and her cousin who she was raised with, Mary Valle; along with many nieces and nephews. Frances will be remembered for her kind, loving spirit. She was always joyful and she did everything with love. Her thoughtfulness was endless. She was nicknamed the “Hallmark Queen” as she always sent out birthday cards and hundreds of Christmas cards at Christmas time. She was also a diehard Phoenix Suns fan – She loved her Phoenix Suns. Above anything else, Frances loved her family and friends immensely. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care Frances received.

Funeral Mass and Rosary will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:15 am, at SS. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85017. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St. Phoenix, AZ 85008.
