Art Sands, 86, went to join the angels on February 19

, 2013. Art was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and moved to Detroit with his family as a young boy. A veteran of two wars, he joined the Army at age 18 and was sent to Japan as part of WWII occupation forces. He served the Army again just a few years later in Korea. After the wars, Art graduated from the University of Detroit in Business & Accounting, and founded and operated several successful businesses including the largest industrial broom manufacturing and snow removal companies in the city of Detroit. He met and married Dolores, his wife of 55 years, and raised three children in the suburb of Grosse Pointe Woods. The family then moved to Paradise Valley, Arizona where Art became a general contractor, was active on the Town Council, and where they lived for 15 years. Dedicated to higher education, Art supported each member of his family through their pursuits of college and advanced degrees. Art and Dolores then spent many years in Austin, Texas and finally The Woodlands, a suburb of Houston.
Art will be deeply missed and is survived by his loving wife Dolores, and his devoted children: daughters Linda Hannen (Mark), Carol Wilson (Mike), and son Arthur (Beth), and nine grandchildren: Will, Ellen, Caroline, Jeff, Isabel, Don, Lauren, Erin and Alexandra. Visitation will be held at 10:00am, with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Sunday, February 24
