Daniel Bruce Scalise was born to Frederick and Ruth Scalise, on November 7, 1940, in Springfield, Massachusetts.
After graduating from high school in 1958, Dan joined the Navy. The highlight of his Navy experience was that he literally sailed around the world. At the orders of President Eisenhower, Dan’s ship, the USS Canberra (CAG-2), was appointed to circle the globe on a good will tour. He had a framed, certificate of honor proudly displayed on his wall to commemorate that.
After his time in the service, Dan went back to school, graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after obtaining his engineering degree, he worked for General Electric. While employed there, he was sent to Phoenix on assignment for the company. In addition to working for GE, Dan later worked for Honeywell and Gold Star. He ended his working career as a real estate appraiser.
When Dan first came to Phoenix while he was working for GE, he met the love of his life, Peggy Thurston. Their wedding was on February 12, 1972.
Dan passed away after a short illness, on June 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, who passed away January 2022, just two weeks short of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. He is survived by his sister Carol Melody and nieces Michelle Melody and Kimberly Boyd.
A memorial service is planned at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 1:00P.M., located at 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com.
