Sean Michael Maplethorpe, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Anthem, Arizona on April 13, 2025. He was 57. Born on September 27, 1967, in San Clemente, California, Sean was the cherished son of Kristi and Joe Maplethorpe. He spent his childhood in Tacoma, Washington, where he grew up surrounded by family and developed a deep love for music and adventure.
Sean served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for four years and carried that same spirit of service throughout his life. He then moved on to attend the University of Washington where he met his wife, Samantha.
Sean’s early professional journey began in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned his MBA from Tulane University and launched his career in technology and sales at Metrocom. His drive and talent led him to Microsoft back in Washington State, where he worked for 16 years in Worldwide Sales Excellence, traveling the globe and forming lifelong friendships. In 2014, Sean relocated to Arizona with his wife, Samantha, and their three children—Katey, Maggie, and Jack—beginning a new chapter filled with sunshine, music, and community.
After his time at Microsoft, Sean followed his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for music by founding businesses in data analytics and becoming the new owner of Rhapsody School of Music in Anthem, Arizona. Through Rhapsody, Sean helped foster a love of performance and creativity in students of all ages. He especially loved watching his students come alive on stage—and watching American Idol and The Voice with Samantha by his side.
He was known for his incredible kindness, his generosity of spirit, and the joy he took in celebrating his family. Whether cheering at a school performance, being a die-hard fan of the Seahawks and Mariners, or sharing stories over dinner, Sean made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
Sean is survived by his wife, Samantha, and their three children, Katey, Maggie, and Jack. His memory will live on in the music he loved, the lives he touched, and the family he so deeply cherished.
A service to honor Sean’s life is scheduled for May 9, 2025 from 1pm-5pm Arizona Time in Anthem, Arizona at the Anthem Civic Building. Guests who would like to join the service virtually may join via this Zoom link.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sean’s name to the Save The Music Foundation to continue his legacy of bringing music to others.
