Shirley Ann Edralin, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend was known best for her loving, generous, and hospitable personality. She was born on February 13, 1944, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and she left us on September 12, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona, following a fierce battle with cancer. Shirley lived a life filled with tremendous service towards family, friends, and many others who treasured her support.
Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Leo Edralin. Shirley was Leo’s wife, companion, and lifetime partner of 65 years. During their marriage they had three daughters, Kim, Tracy, and Carla. Shirley is survived by her husband, Leo; her children, Tracy (Tom) Wilky and Carla (Rick) Schlitzer; and two sisters, Carol Marlow and Roxanne (John) Malik. Shirley also leaves behind five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives; yet, they find comfort in the memories and love they shared with her. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kim; grandson, Jason; father Melvin (Sandi) Engquist; mother Dorothy Hoyt; siblings Janice (Jim) Neuberger, Steven (Cheryl) Engquist, and Mark Engquist; and her nephew, Derick Marlow.
Shirley was business partners with Leo, and together they successfully complemented each other’s skills in selling women’s fashion apparel, owners of several retail clothing stores and rental properties, as well as a furniture restoration business. Shirley was instrumental in forming the Yellow House Foundation, a nonprofit, fellowship organization with a mission for helping those who suffer from alcohol and substance abuse. Shirley (and her other half) hosted numerous fellowship activities and social events including monthly Texas Hold’em tournaments, annual Santa and Mrs. Claus holiday parties, and frequent “hand-knee and foot” card games, of which she was a renowned expert. These social activities were always eagerly anticipated and well-attended.
Shirley was an avid reader enjoying historical fiction, thrillers, and mysteries-- among other genres. She was committed to starting each day by reading her daily scripture passages and meditations, many of which were so well-loved over the years that the pages are now vintage and falling out of the bindings. Shirley’s other passions were playing Bingo and the casino slot machines. She had a captivating smile each time she won a jackpot or shouted, “Bingo”!
Shirley was a vibrant and optimistic person whose greatest joys involved spending time with her family and friends. She displayed kindness, empathy, and capacity to bring happiness and comfort to all of those around her. She genuinely loved people and radiated positivity. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. The family will be having a Celebration of Life in Austin, Texas in the late spring. In remembrance of Shirley, those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to Hospice of the Valley.
