Charles Edward Smith

Charles Edward Smith (Chuck) passed peacefully January 14, 2011. Chuck was born December 28th, 1931 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Phoenix, AZ. Chuck was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and after an honorable discharge, joined the Phoenix Fire Department where he served 25 years, retiring in 1982. During retirement Chuck was active in re-building classic cars, building model planes and being the patriarch of a large extended family. Survivors include his children: Richard Smith, Deborah Ortiz, Michelle Klingbeil, Nicole Carter, Colleen Miller-Curtis, 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, brother Dr. Gordon Smith (Doc) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Smith, his son Richard Sherlock, and three sisters: Lois Huber, Louise Franklin and Maggie Jones. Visitation is planned for Friday, January 21st, from 5-8pm. Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 22, at 10:30am. Both will take place at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
