Nell D. Smith, beloved Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed from this life into the presence of God on June 9, 2014, after a long battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer. She was born April 10, 1935 in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, Washington. Nell was preceded in death by husband George A. “Johnny” Smith, veteran of U.S. Navy, and son Michael A. Smith, veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Nell’s legacy includes two daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by sister Shirley and brother-in-law Charles Krieger, and brother Joe Black. She resided in Phoenix for 32 years and was employed by Pinkerton (later becoming Securitas) as a Certified Security Officer and Supervisor for 28 years, retiring in 2010 as a Post Commander at Hamilton/Sundstrand. Nell was lovely, funny, a loyal friend, a fierce fighter, and dedicated to her family. Oh, how we will miss her! In lieu of a memorial, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
