Roger D. Smith

Roger D. Smith died peacefully Saturday evening June 27, 2015 with his loving family near him. He was born July 30, 1925 in DePeyster, NY and moved his wife and two children to Phoenix, AZ in 1963. Roger will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to play golf, and watch the Arizona Diamondbacks play baseball. He served his country with honor, fighting in the Pacific with the US Navy from 1943-1946. He worked in the grocery industry for over 40 years, most of that time with Safeway stores, in Arizona. Roger was preceded in death by Theresa, his wife of 49 years and is survived by his brother Dale, daughter Patricia, son-in-law Jim, son Richard, daughter-in-law Nancy, granddaughters Jami, Kristin and Angela, grandson Jeremy, great grandson Evan and great granddaughter Skye. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service. Interment will be private.
