Passed away peacefully on September 13, 2011.She was born Mary Lou Wolf on May 21, 1933 to Leo and Laura Wolf of Odell, Illinois. Mary Lou married Patrick Snyder in 1956 upon his graduation from the University of Notre Dame. Following Pat’s tour of service in the Marine Corp., the happy couple embarked on a 35 year executive career with Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, Indiana. The Snyders relocated to Phoenix in 1986 when Pat took over the Cummins Southwest distributorship. Mary Lou and Pat raised four children, Lori (Rick) Hodge of Houston, Patrick (Dee) Snyder of Phoenix, Susan (David) Gerken of Columbus, Indiana, and Beth (Jon) Profitt of Scottsdale. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Jason and Brian Hodge, Conner and Kelly Profitt, Katie Snyder, and Kendall Gerken. Mary Lou was a dedicated volunteer and served on the VNSA Charity Book Sale for over 20 years including as Chairperson. She was a member of St. Columba Parish in Columbus, Indiana and St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Phoenix. Mary Lou was an avid reader and known for her hospitality, sense of humor, and extraordinary cooking skills. She also loved playing card games and creating meaningful friendships. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Pat, parents, Leo and Laura Wolf, and sister, Alice (Wolf) Rondelli. Surviving brothers and sisters include: Alvin Wolf of Odell, IL, sister Helen Wolf of the Dominican Order in Springfield, IL, Dolores (Wolf) Sellmeyer of Winona, IL, and Robert Wolf of Davenport, IA. The family would like to thank the staff at Terraces Assisted Living Center for all the kindness and love they showed to our mother. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm with a Scripture Service at 7pm, Thursday, September 15, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am, Friday, September 16 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Avenue, Phoenix. Graveside Service will follow immediately at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Donations graciously accepted in Mary Lou Snyder’s name at Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
