Susan "Sue" Schmitzer Darrington

Susan "Sue" Schmitzer Darrington, born Susan Mary McKillip, passed away on May 9, 2024, at the age of 88 in Phoenix, AZ. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sue cherished her life centered around family, friends, and service to others. She readily welcomed many into the family fold and treated everyone with a dose of motherly love.

Sue attended Marquette University and dedicated much of her life to being a devoted mother to her four sons (Mike, Pat, Dan, and Todd) and a loving wife to Jarvis “Jarv” Schmitzer (1957-1998) and later, to William “Bill” Darrington (2000-2020). Her home was a comfortable and safe place to congregate, highlighted by her excellent cooking and laughter, including that of friends, many of whom she cherished for over 50 years.

As an active individual, Sue enjoyed tennis, hiking, skiing, traveling, gardening and even camping (albeit with a pack of boys), bringing joy and energy to these activities. Her commitment to her Christian faith was evident in her regular attendance and involvement at the Brophy Chapel, Casa Santa Cruz, Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church and San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church (Flagstaff).

A funeral and memorial Mass to honor Sue’s life will be held at Brophy Chapel (4701 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ) on August 2, 2024, at 11 AM. There will be a reception and celebration of life immediately after at the Arizona Biltmore. Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
