Thomas Victor Martinez, Jr., devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend slipped away on the early morning hour of July 4, 2024. Born on October 21, 1956 in Phoenix, Arizona, son of Connie R. Meza and was preceded in death by his father, Thomas V. Martinez, Sr. Also preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. Meza, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Arcario Martinez. 

 Tom was the eldest of his siblings, Michael (Susan), Frank, Andy (Annette), Tisa (Dennis), Kathy (Henry) Carmel, Christopher (Laura), Kelly (Jim), his twin sisters Rosemary(dec.) and Margaret Mary (dec.), and numerous nephews and nieces.

 Tom was a graduate of St. Agnes Elementary, St. Mary’s High School, Arizona State University, and received his Juris Doctorate at Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America.

 Tom was a voracious reader beginning at an early age. He loved history and current events. Tom’s curiosity, love of people, understanding of their fragility led him to the study of law making an impact in the lives of many, always kind and offering guidance.

 Tom’s civic involvement extended to Boys Town, President of Mecha de ASU, first Chicano Columnist, ASU Press referring to himself as “El Mestizo de Mecha”, internships for Senator Dennis DeConcini, Rep Mo Udall, Co-founder of Los Abogados, sit ins, challenging the systemic racism found in our institutions in the 70’s and 80’s.

 These were but a few of his accomplishments, he was regarded throughout his life by his colleagues as brilliant, kind, a mentor, an adventurer, a world traveler, thoughtful. These were his greatest accomplishments, his were not of the material world but of a place where countless people held a special place in their hearts for him. They knew and recognized that his work was a genuine love, and a gift to others.

 In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Tom’s honor to the Andre House of Arizona, Inc., 213 S 11th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85007.

 A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, with recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. to be officiated by Ret. Bishop Emeritas Gerald R. Barnes, from San Bernadino Roman Catholic Diocese in Riverside, California. Burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Phoenix. Reception will take place at the reception hall at St. Mary’s Basilica following services.
