Carmen Delores (Vasquez) Ulibarri, from Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home, on January 29, 2023. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 30, 1923, to her parents Ralph Vasquez and Tomacita (Lucero) Vasquez. She and her sister, Mary Louise Wallace, grew up in Los Angeles. It was there that Carmen met her future husband, Alfred (Al) Ulibarri, and they were married in 1942. They were a couple devoted to each other for 71 years. Al’s work brought them to Phoenix in 1958. They embraced their friends and the community around them. They enjoyed traveling, visiting many countries, but their love of the mountains always brought them back to Pinetop, Arizona, where they spent many summers and lived full time for several years. Al proceeded her in death in 2013.
Carmen was an accomplished homemaker. She loved family, cooking, entertaining and created beautiful stained-glass lamps. She had a twinkle in her eye and loved giving and receiving hugs. At 99 years of age, she loved and lived a wonderful, full life. She will be missed!
She leaves behind her daughter Anita Wilson, son-in-law Steve, granddaughter Jennifer Wilson-Stein and husband Jared, grandson Steven Wilson and his wife Elise, and great grandchildren Emma and Gage Rosales, Chase, Paige, and Adrienne Wilson, niece Carolyn Bowen and nephew Jim Wallace and his wife Marilyn.
A celebration of Carmen’s life will be held at a later date. We wish to thank Hospice of the Valley for their help during this time. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com
