Marcella Irene Valencia
Marcella Irene Valencia, 76, of Phoenix, Arizona was born into heaven on September 21, 2020. Marcie’s final breath on earth was taken surrounded by her loving family, and we are certain she was greeted into the loving arms of her eternal love, Carlos Valencia, now joined for eternity in heaven.
Marcie was born on Friday, December 3, 1943 to Manuel and Antonia Yrique. After graduating from the original Phoenix Union High School, she studied to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. Marcie’s career focused on rehabilitating patients after having surgery to ensure they were strong enough to return to their families. In addition, she worked as a seamstress where her work was displayed in some of the finest resorts in Arizona.
In November 1962, Marcie met Carlos on All Saints’ Day, also known as Dia de los Muertos, the day their world was blessed by divine intervention. Four years later, on May 21, 1966 they married at Immaculate Heart Church and celebrated a lifetime of memories. After the birth of her first child, Marcie made the decision to dedicate her life to her family. Marcie is survived by her daughter Theresa Valencia-Smith (husband Brad); son Carlos Yrique Valencia (wife Lydia) as well as three amazing grandchildren, Samantha, Emily, and Brandon. In addition to her two children, she is survived by her brother Manuel Yrique(wife Daneen); her sister Chris Taggart (husband Walt); and her sister Cecilia Haston (husband Cliff).
Marcie was loved by many who called her Mother, Madre,Grandmother, Nana, and Nani. Marcie’s love for others always provided a home, a shoulder to lean on, and advice that was life changing.
When Marcie was not filling her home with warmth and love,she could be found shopping at her local Ross. Marcie also loved to cook traditional Mexican Food and had an annual tamale party sharing many traditions that will be treasured and carried on by her family for generations to come.
Marcie’s celebration of life will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Resthaven Mortuary located at 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, Arizona 85042.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Marcie’s honor to her favorite charities, The American Heart Institute and Fresh Start Women’s Foundation.
