Helen G. Villegas

Helen G. Villegas, age 75, was called home on November 28, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, nana, Tia and friend. She was born on October 8, 1945 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Antonio Gomez and Guadalupe Gomez. Nine months later she was brought over to the United States by her father Antonio Gomez. Helen lived in a small town called Kyrene Arizona with her family and they later moved to Guadalupe, Arizona. In Kyrene she attended elementary school with all of her siblings, and she graduated from Tempe Union High School. She then pursued a higher education in the Nursing field and upon earning her certificate, worked for Dr. Gardner.

Helen was in the nursing field for quite some time, until she retired and became a full-time caregiver. She always honored a promise she made to her mother and took care of her younger sister Martha Gomez for 42 years. Helen dedicated her life to God and spent countless hours singing at any and every event. Her commitment was always with her local church in the city she resided in. She impacted innumerable lives by sharing the gift of her voice that was accompanied by her unconditional love. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Every day you could find Helen watching CNN and on the phone with her sister Dora Lopez who was her best friend, catching up on the latest in politics. When she wasn’t watching CNN, she was on Facebook spreading as many prayers and as much love as she could. She shared a love for food when all of her kids and grandkids would take her out to eat for date nights. Every year on your birthday you could count on a “Happy Birthday” wake up call from her and all year round she always made time to make everyone in her life feel special. Helen was a sports fanatic for the local teams and was the #1 Arizona Cardinals fan.

She is survived by her husband Florentino C. Villegas, her sons, and daughters. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. All of whom she loved deeply and will continue to live out her legacy.
