Edward B. Md Waldmann

Edward B. Waldmann, MD, FACP, 89, passed away on December 14, 2015.  He was born February 6, 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Creighton University, where he graduated summa cum laude from the medical school and received the Adolph Sachs Award. Internship was spent at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, followed by service as a naval flight surgeon.  Military U.S. Navy American Theater February 4, 1945, Lt. (Medical Corp.) May 19, 1948, Group Flight Surgeon Marine Air Group Helicopter Transport 1961 – 1962, 1969 Captain Medical Corp U.S. Navy Reserve and Naval Flight Surgeon. After the Navy, Dr. Waldmann became associated with the Mayo Clinic, first as a fellow in medicine and then as a staff member.  He moved to Phoenix in 1959, joining Phoenix Medical Associates.  In 1968, he was named medical director of the Mercy Care Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and then developed a consulting practice in internal medicine and nephrology.   Dr. Waldmann has been active in local college affairs.  He has served as program chairman, been on the regional council and presented several papers.  He has been on the teaching staff at St. Joseph Hospital since 1979, until retirement in the 90’s, an associate in internal medicine at the University of Arizona from 1973 – 1984 and instructor for the nurse clinician (practitioner) program, Graduate School of Nursing, Arizona State University from 1973 – 1978.  Dr. Waldmann is survived by his children, Kathy Nelson (George) of Council Bluffs, Mary Pat Waldmann of Phoenix, Steve Waldmann of Phoenix, Chris Tucker of Omaha, NE, grandchildren Lena Dewald, a law student, Washington, DC, Geoff Nelson of Seattle, WA, stepchildren from his late wife Arloa Stickel, Rick Stickel, The Colony TX, Merrie Martinson, New York, NY, Terrie Schulman, Wayne, PA, Jerry Stickel, Lompoc, CA, step-grandchild Lauren Schulman, Donyelle Rose, W. Sacramento, CA, stepchildren from his surviving wife, widow, retired Michigan attorney, Sandra Waldmann, daughter Nelini Faulkner, Ann Arbor, MI. Dr. Waldmann was preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Waldmann.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.   Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.  Arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
