Florence M. Wenberg, age 93, died in the peace and comfort of Serenity Hospice Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Monday, August 29, 2011.
She was born August 25, 1918, in the Town of Guttenberg, Iowa, to the late Philip and Christine (Kirschbaum) Johll. She attended Grade School and graduated from Logan High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Florence also attended the La Crosse Vocational School.
In 1945, Florence moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. It was there that she married Edwin Wenberg, pursued her career as a clerk-typist and started a family in the Islands. In 1960, Florence and Edwin moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she held clerical positions with the U. S. Veterans Administration and eventually a position as a Legal Secretary to the U.S. Attorney. Florence retired from her Civil Service position with the Department of Justice – U. S. Courts in 1980.
Florence was a long-time parishioner of St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
Florence is survived by her son and his wife, Douglas and Deborah; six grandchildren, Christopher Wenberg, Ramona, CA, Stephanie Wenberg, Phoenix, AZ; Melinda Wenberg, Boise, ID, Joel Wenberg, Waco, TX; William Wenberg, Ramona, CA, Kristyna Moran, Ramona, CA; and three great-granddaughters, Harlow Wenberg, Phoenix, AZ, Addison Wenberg, Waco, TX, and Olivia Wenberg, Ramona, CA. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Rose Mary, Irene, and Jeanette.
A Memorial Service for Florence M. Wenberg will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Inurnment will take place at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punch Bowl, Honolulu, Hawaii.
